Anahata ~ inviting love and compassion into your life

The Sanskrit name for the Heart Chakra is Anahata, which translates to “unhurt”.

Anahata connects us to love, joy, happiness and compassion, and allows us to feel sorrow, sadness and anger.

Located in the centre of your chest, Anahata is the bridge connecting the lower and higher chakras.

When in balance Anahata enables you to understand others and accept them for who they are; you will not judge or be critical of their actions. You are comfortable with your own company, and would rather wait for the “right” one to come to you – because you know it will come to you when the time is right.

If it is unbalanced you are ruled by your emotions; sadness, anger, grief, despair, greediness and happiness will come over you with no or little control. You may be manipulative, over critical, and judgemental of yourself and others.

This card is a lesson of the Heart; it is time to forgive and accept yourself, and invite love and compassion to flow through you, allowing it to heal you and others.

To balance Anahata practice compassion and self-love. Reconnect with your heart by connecting with the element of air; sit outside and feel the breeze upon your skin or practice breath work. Psychotherapy can help to deal with relationship issues, grief, and self-acceptance.

When it is open fully, the Heart Chakra becomes what the Buddhists call Mahakaruna, a channel for universal compassion – your true self.
