Choosing happinessAccording to Buddhist philosophy, happiness is our own responsibility – and completely within our control.

Choosing happiness can help to overcome depression, anxiety disorders, anger and self-sabotaging behaviours.

Happiness is a practice, and it’s on you to learn and use it. It is a mindset you can nurture and train.

The Dalai Lama says that happiness comes from peace of mind and warm-heartedness; from reducing ill feeling and distrust towards others.

To release feelings of loneliness, let go of a self-centred attitude, a competitive nature or jealousy

Develop a deeper sense of happiness in your life, by opening yourself to helping others, to trust and to friendship.

Start focusing on the good in the world, rather than the negative.

Notice the beauty around you – the colours of a magnificent sunset, the fragrance of a beautiful flower, the smile of a small child you pass on the street, the kindness of strangers.

Before long, you will find yourself enveloped in happiness and contentment.

Questions to ask yourself:

  1. What do you need to let go of to invite happiness into your life?
  2. What is it that makes you truly happy?
  3. How can you bring more happiness into your life and into the lives of those around you?
