Higher healing with the chakras

With the help of energetic healing, meditation and movement, you may be able to unblock your chakras to move beyond personal stumbling blocks and into greater health and happiness.

Did you know working with your chakras can improve not only your physical health, but also your emotional wellbeing?

First described in the Vedas, India’s ancient books of wisdom, more than 4000 years ago, understanding of chakras and their role in spiritual and physical development has now travelled widely through the Western world.

Meaning ‘wheel’ or ‘disc’, a chakra is an energy centre, often depicted as a spinning ball of energy.

There are seven primary chakras in the body, running from the base of your spine through to the top of your head. It’s possible that each energy centre is reflective of one of the original seven planets and that each chakra ‘s purpose is influenced by its planetary patron. While there are other minor chakras, it’s the main seven that are most discussed and highlighted in terms of balancing energy and emotion, and improving health.

Your chakras open and activate at different stages through childhood and adult life. As an adult, you may have some well-functioning chakras and others that are closed down.

If you experienced a major event or trauma as a child, you may note the chakra corresponding to that age as of particular significance for you. Depending on the issues and concerns of your life today, different chakra profiles will resonate more or less strongly.

Each chakra connects to individual emotions, feelings, processes and parts of the body.

The base chakra, for example, correlates to basic survival needs, while the crown chakra holds your connection to divinity and spirit, as if energy rises from the practical or mundane at the base of the chakra system to the intuitive and highly perceptive at the top of the chakra system. The chakras reflect a growth process, bringing you from unconscious to conscious.

As with physical organs, the function of each of your chakras can become blocked. Energy work, crystals and meditation can be powerful ways to get your wheels spinning again and balance your chakras.

You can work with the chakras purely energetically, or you can include them as one facet on your healing journey.

Dancing through the ancient chakra system awakens the body, expands the mind, and calls out to the soul. Dancing the seven chakras is like dancing into seven different inner landscapes, each with its own lessons, meanings and stories.

Chakradance classes are all held in a darkened room, lit only by candle-light. In this ‘sacred space’ we begin to transition from our outer, every-day life, into our rich inner, imaginative world.
