The benefits of guided meditation

More and more people are turning to meditation as they seek effective ways to deal with their modern-day lives.

How often when talking with people do you hear, “I’m just so stressed at the moment …”, or “I can’t sleep, I keep waking up during the night and I can’t seem to turn my brain off ….”. 

I often ask “Have  your tried meditation?”  That question is usually met with dismissal, the usual answer is “I can’t quiet my mind” or “I can’t sit still for that long”.

Meditation can be difficult, especially for beginners. It sounds easy enough – sit quietly,  breath deeply and still your mind.

Easier said than done, right?  I know I’ve struggled …. I settle myself in the ideal setting, focus on my breathing and then I try to consciously clear my mind …. stop thinking … stop it …. this is so frustrating …. stop it …. why can’t I do this!

You can’t believe my relief when I found out that this kind of meditation is one of most difficult techniques to master. That’s where guided meditation comes in.

A great place to start

Guided meditations are are a great tool to get you started on your meditation practice. Put simply, guided meditation is meditation with the help of a guide, and there are plenty of guided meditation CDs that can get you started. For example, you can visualise your goals using guided meditation, help your body heal, improve the quality of your sleep, and get in touch with your spirituality.

Chakradance practitioners use guided meditation to guide participants into the energy of each chakra – you just close your eyes, let the music wash over you, and allow yourself to be transported in to that magical and sacred realm within you.

While you are in a deeply relaxed state of mind, your subconscious is open to the suggestions made in the guided meditation. You don’t have to worry about turning your mind off because you are listening to the guide and following their instructions as to where to put your thoughts and focus.

Deepak Chopra says regular meditation can put you in touch with the field of “pure potentiality” – the eternal, unchanging source of all creation. And you find a connection to that source within yourself, when your mind is quiet, clear and calm.

I use guided meditations during soul journeys to help my clients access their inner-wise self and talk with their guides, and also to take them into past life regressions where they can uncover and resolves blocks that are holding them back in this life.
